Kinser Ship Wreck

The kids loved walking the tide pools at Kinser.  There were endless sea life in all the pools.  They liked snorkeling this beach as well, but there were lots of jelly fish  and other not so friendly things to encounter on this part of the island, so i didn't let them snorkel very much, but exploring the tide pools was something we did regularly.  The kids were facinated with the ship that had wrecked just off the beach.  They removed the ship before we ever got the chance to walk/swim out to it though...This is Jorden and Vicki at Camp Kinser Beach on Okinawa in the Spring of 2004.

  1. Hello my name is Lauren. My dad was stationed there for 3 years! We moved to Okinawa Japan late 2001, just shortly before 9/11. We had to live off base until our base housing was open/ready for us, so we lived at "Hamagawa Lodge" for several months and during 9/11 we experienced the 1st of many powerful Typhoons and our entire place was filling with water. We finally were able to move into base housing on Camp Kinser although my father worked at Futenma. My mother homeschooled my two younger sisters and I the entire time we lived in Japan, so we were outside going on "adventures" everyday! My sisters and I used to love riding our blades or skate boards down to the beach with the sunken clipper and would walk out to it at low tide, it was incredible. We would also play at the park that was right there on the beach or we'd take our skates and boards and go to the small skate park that was also right there by the park and the beach. After a long day of finding hermit crabs or skating we would go up to the burger king for a snack and drink. Living in Okinawa Japan made a huge life long lasting impression on myself, my sisters and our parents. If ever I have the chance to go back, I'd go back in a heart beat!! I was so overly excited to read your blog and about you and your family living in Okinawa and then sad to read that the sunken clipper was removed shortly after we moved back to the states.

I am so sorry for the very long comment but it is not often that I come across someone else whom lived in Okinawa Japan, thank you for sharing your picture and story about Okinawa Japan and your family! Have a blessed day!

    2. That 9/11 typhoon was something else though yea? Basically grew on top of the island and stayed there for like a week or two or something.
